Coming Down To The Wire Sunday August 22, 2010 at 11:05PM Day 35
It's coming down to the wire now as crews have removed a good portion of the lift hill. All that remains of the once iconic seven looping giant is a section of lift from the base to about a quarter of the way up. There is also a large area of the drop remaining as crews have not yet touched the remaining loop, which is rumored to be staying as a grave for this monstrous coaster. These photos were taken today as we were amazed that skyline of the park has completely changed:
Earlier in the week we were hearing reports of track arriving on site, however, we have confirmed that not to be true. As for the remaining pieces of track, I am sure we will see the last piece being removed before the Labor Day Weekend.
Lift Coming Down, Footers Dug Up Wednesday August 13, 2010 at 11:05PM Day 26
Crews are progressing with the removal of the lift hill of The Great American Scream Machine. So far crews have managed to remove about half of the lift hill. As crews continue removing track pieces and supports, crews on the ground are digging up the footers that have held this red giant in place for more then 20 years as seen in the photos below. It also looks like the footers are being broken up into gravel or large rocks. Maybe these footers will be recycled into the landscape of the new coaster:
When we received these photos we were told that the park is planning to make the announcement of the new coaster in August. Therefore, one could speculate that track pieces will be arriving shortly. To semi-confirm this, we have heard reports of containers on site at Six Flags Great America next to the current Chang track that is on site:
Rides Closed, Lift Coming Down Wednesday August 11, 2010 at 12:30PM Day 24
Thanks to Synaxis, these photos show that the park has rented a crane for the removal of the lift of The Great American Scream Machine. The park has decided to close Parachutes & eRuption. Both rides were re-opened once dismantling stopped. We could see the whole entire ride gone by the end of August at the rate they are moving:
From this angle you can see a large chunk of the lift missing:
